 UPCOMING ASSESSMENTS IN MSAD#72

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Maine Through Year Assessments will be given to students in grades 3-8 from 10/7- 10/25/24. The scores from these assessments help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth, and make determinations for next steps in student learning. Results can assist teachers in planning for small group instruction, thus allowing them to impact student needs on a greater level. The assessment is adaptive and responds to your child’s answers. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn.

The State of Maine and Maine’s school districts are required to test all students in grades 3-8 in Math and English Language Arts. This standardized assessment data is required to inform the state’s accountability model for schools and determines where supports and resources are most needed. While there are no specific consequences for students or parents related to test participation, a variety of state and federal consequences may be imposed on states, SAUs or schools. If you have questions regarding your student’s participation, please contact your student’s principal. Signed opt-out requests must be received by 10/1/24.

Please help your student on assessment days by ensuring they have breakfast and have had a good night's sleep to help them feel their best while taking an online assessment!

MEAs: Why Participation Matters

               ESEA INFORMATION AND PUBLIC COMMENTS

      ESEA Public Comments for Application

MSAD 72 accepts funding through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. As part of ESEA, MSAD 72 is required to provide a reasonable opportunity for public comment on the ESEA consolidated application and consider such comment prior to the submission of the application. Our ESEA team, composed of a representative from all stakeholder groups, has been working on a draft proposal for Title IA and Title IIA funding for the 2024-25 school year.

Below you will find our outline for the draft proposal based on data gained throughout the school year and district, school, and ESEA goals.

Potential Title IA projects (Approximately $216,480.02):

*Staffing, Interventionist and ed techs to support math and reading K-5

*Provide opportunities for parent engagement.

Potential Title IIA projects (Approximately $35,896.98:)

*Professional development for staff that aligns with school and district needs assessment and curriculum. This may include book studies, on site professional development, conferences , webinars or other opportunities to support our students.

We invite comments regarding these expenditures, please contact Danette Kerrigan, Title I Coordinator, at danette.kerrigan@msad72.org.

Title IA

Title IA ensures that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on Maine’s Learning Results/Common Core State Standards.

MSAD 72 uses these dollars to fund teachers and educational technicians to help so that individual, specific instruction, will assure achievement of all children to high standards. Molly Ockett School, New Suncook Elementary and Brownfield Denmark Elementary are all Schoolwide Title IA programs. This means all students are eligible to receive small group assistance and all staff can benefit from teaching materials designed to support students in their learning journey.

A Parent Advisory Committee meets annually to review a Title IA policy and to seek input about training and/or information needed to help extend and reinforce your child’s learning and achievement. If you are interested in participating, please contact Danette Kerrigan, Curriculum Coordinator and Title I coordinator at 207-935-2401 or danette.kerriga@msad72.org.

Each school will be reviewing the Parent/School/Community Compacts during the upcoming school year. If you would like to participate, please call or email Danette Kerrigan.

Title IIA

Title IIA “Improving Teacher Quality,” helps to increase the academic achievement of all students by helping school districts ensure that all teachers are highly qualified to teach. It focuses on preparing, training and recruiting high quality teachers. The funds provided support professional development to design, instruct, assess, and communicate proficiency-based learning experiences for students and support teacher leadership.

Information regarding the district data regarding ELA and Math performance, Behavior and Attendance can be found on the ESSA Dashboard linked HERE
