Grade 3

Grade 3 students embark on learning designed to meet the Maine learning results, build a solid base for the skills and concepts necessary to grow and succeed in up coming grade levels. Teachers may use supplementary materials and have enhanced learning opportunities beyond those listed here.

ELA: Grade 3 students will be using the Units of Study for Grade 3 from Teachers College to move from foundational skills in reading to a further mastery of comprehension and fluency. In addition, The focus for reading and writing is on the workshop model, allowing for direct, personalized instruction in small groups. Students will address different genres of reading and writing with access to a range of texts

** Molly Ockett Grade 3 is piloting “Into Reading” this year with units including What a character!, Let Freedom Ring, Imagine! Invent! and From Farm to Table. ,

Math: MSAD 72 Adopted I-Ready Math program for K-8 Math. the concepts covered in Grade 3 include: Place Value, 3 digit numbers, Multiplication, Area, Word Problems using multiplication and Beginning Fractions.

Science: Grade 3 teachers have access to Mystery Science Curriculum. They may however, utilize enhanced learning opportunities or integrate lessons with other content areas as well.

Grade 3 concepts include : Animals Through Time, Life Cycles, Heredity Survival and Selection, Weather and Climate , Forces and Motion.

The units here cover more Next Gen Science Standards (NGSS). than are required by the Maine learning Results.

Social Studies : Themes covered include: Community and Citizenship, Financial Responsibility, Map and Globe Skills, Change Over Time
