Grade 8

Grade 8 students embark on learning designed to meet the Maine learning results, build a solid base for the skills and concepts necessary to grow and succeed in upcoming grade levels. Teachers may use supplementary materials and have enhanced learning opportunities beyond those listed here. The student schedule continues with four teachers providing instruction in individual content areas. In addition, students taking a foreign language or those who have progressed to Algebra are able to take advantage of receiving instruction at Fryeburg Academy. Teachers can integrate content areas and create enhanced learning opportunities for their students.

ELA: Students will be working with Lexia Power-up. Literacy acceleration and will be assessed on Literacy standardas that align with Science, Math and Social Studies.

Math: MSAD 72 Adopted the I-Ready Math program for K-8 Math. the concepts covered in Grade 8 include: Transformations, Congruence, Geometric figures, Functions, linear and non linear relationships, Integer Exponents, properties and Scientific Notation, Pythagorean theorem and Statistics.

Science: Grade 8 students will complete a three year program titled Issues and Science. This Issue-oriented science program helps students see how science is connected to their lives and communities. In Grade 8 the focus is on Physical Science, exploring Waves, Energy, Chemistry of Materials, Force and Motion, Chemical Reactions and Fields and Interactions. This program is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards, which are the standards the Maine Learning Results for Science are adapted.

Social Studies : ERA: 1945-1991, Units include Government Structure, WWII, The Cold War, Vietnam and Korean Wars, Civil Rights and the Decades Project.
